Jeff Givens notices LaMont Givens and Thomas McIlreavy: I’ve been thinking about this for some time now. How can mere words really capture what a person(s) teachings and leadership have meant to another’s life, it almost seems like an injustice to even try. I have been blessed to have very strong mentors in my life both in my family and those I consider friends. My father- Terry LaMont Givens was born in October of 1936 and had 2 wonderful parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother and from what I was told about the early years as he called them they had their share of troubles, most families do. He and my mother were married for a number of years but then figured out that they were better friends apart. Now my father never would never shy away from talking about when he was a kid everything was a learning experience he could use to teach me what to do or what not to do and it made for some great conversations, embarrassing at times but always memorable. That was just how he was, he openly talked with me about anything I wanted and if he didn’t have the answer we’d find it together. He made a lot of money and lost a lot but never stopped telling me that he loved me and that he was proud of me, money and possessions had nothing to do with it. Sure he wanted me to have it better than he did growing up but in the end it was always about “are you happy?” cuz that’s all that really matters. Thanks dad—I’m happy. Now I was lucky my mother had good taste in men because her second marriage was to Thomas Watson McIlreavy born in the United State in 1927 but raised in Scotland. My mother came to this country from Scotland at 18 and not long after her first marriage ended she met my step father at a local social club, He asked her to dance, and she said no but within weeks they were dating. It was a bit odd at the start but I can’t remember ever introducing him as my “step father” he wasn’t to me, he was my dad. While I was growing up we had our disagreements but I was never made to feel like I wasn’t his son not even when he and my mother had my brother James and I can tell you that was the best feeling ever. There was no “that’s my son and this is my real son” it never mattered who was first or who was blood he was just dad and I was his son. My dad taught me that GOD was the one thing that never left me in hard times; HE never turned away in times of trouble and always had his hand open waiting to take mine. My dad was not a tall man in height but in his walk with GOD he towered over many people I see today they can’t hold a candle to him, he wasn’t a saint but he never tried to be, he wanted to be the best he could be. He led by example and speaking for myself it’s not easy to be like him but he taught me that it’s ok just keep trying because the reward we get in the end is better than anything he could give me on earth. Both my fathers are gone now but what they’ve left me and my family will go on forever. I was taught by one father how the world worked and how to enjoy it without losing a part of myself to it and remember that what’s important is “are you happy”, and the other father taught me to be a good husband, father and to always think about the other people I come across in my daily life. Speak for the one’s that can’t or won’t and if the cause is just fight for what you believe, you may not win but at least you can look yourself in the mirror. GOD IS GREAT and will never leave me or forsake me, he is there in the morning and at night and always ready to “take my hand”.

January 26, 2010 @ 5:00 PM
Jeff Givens notices Fred Zimmerman: Fred Zimmerman has been the minister of my church for 30+years and has an infectious spirit about him. He loves the LORD and you can see it in his daily walk but also in the way he talks to people especially kids. I grew up in the South Redford Christian Church and Fred has really been the only minister I’ve known and I proud to say I’m the person I am today in part because of Fred. He and his wife Bonnie have been second parents to me over the years and now that I’m married and have had my own children it’s wonderful to see the impact they’ve had on my kids. Sometimes I’m sure it’s hard for someone to lead a church and not know for sure that they’ve done enough to get the congregation to love the LORD, to learn about and read there Bibles and to go out and be truly GODS people but from where I stand Fred and Bonnie have. The church has had its up’s and down’s, people have come and gone along with big idea’s and big dreams but one thing has always been stead fast and that’s their love for the Lord and each other—there light truly shines for the rest of us.

george spradlin notices Joe Sostarich: In 2003 I took a job with a mortgage company in Louisville Kentucky. The owner was a 70ish year old man named Joe Sostarich. He refuses to count years, they mean nothing. I worked for this man for 8 months when the manager and I had a disagreement. He basically was a thief which he proved to everyone later. I quit and went to work at a place where this man wouldn't have his hand on my pay check. In 2008 I am walking across a parking lot when a car starts chasing me, so i stopped and the driver was Joe Sostarich, and boy did he want to know how I knew this man was a crook. I told him and asked him what he was doing, he said he had formed a company and needed a sales person did I want to be that sales person? I asked what does it pay he told me, and I said that is about 30k less than i am making now. To this his reply was sure you make more but you aren't working for me. I said you are right I am not, so where do i sign. I took the job and I have been with him for over a year now. If I am down he takes me for Jelly lunches, no one can be sad, or depressed if you are eating jelly. He gave me several oppurtunities to supplement my income outside of our company. He sits me down and tells me almost true stories about his life, he is my confidant, my employer, my mentor, but most of all Joe is my friend. I listen to every word he says I laugh, and I get to go eat with him. His favorite restaurant is Waffle House. There is not a waffle house in Louisville, that he is not known in. When they see him in the parking lot they start a fresh pot of coffee, and every waitress, and cook yells out his name when he comes in. he is a friend to everyone and everybody, Joe jhas given me oppurtunities that I would never dream possible. He lives everyday like it was his last, and encourages everyone too. While reading the Noticer, I realized my Jones was Joe. Thanks Joe You are my friend and I love you!
December 30, 2009 @ 3:48 PM
Dan notices Chevy: I would like to notice, thank and honor a man called “Chevy” by all his friends and family, who I have never had the pleasure of meeting personally however he has still had a profound impact on my life. This man true to the teachings knew nothing of the “7 Decisions” but lived them everyday without even knowing. Through the stories of his closest family members telling of his honesty, integrity and selfless caring for all of humanity, I can tell he is great man whom and I will strive the rest of my life to emulate. The prove was not only present at his funeral, were hundreds of people in a small town came to show their own thanks to this great man, but through his own living version of the “Butterfly Effect” I have had the pleasure of coming to know his off spring as the greatest friend I have ever known, and each and everyday displays his life time of teachings Chevy, I did not get to meet you in this life, but I would be truly honored to meet you in the next to thank you personally for your inspiration and the creation of my closest and dearest friend. You are a great inspiration to me in these most difficult times in my life and will work relentlessly to be but a fraction of the man you were!
December 29, 2009 @ 6:49 PM
Jaye notices Charlie: You've been noticed, by me, here and publicly. I want you to know that I see you, in my mind and my heart, every day. I know who you are, how you drop a few dollars on the grocery store line when you hear a lady adding up her groceries and wondering if she will have to put some back because she can't pay for them, then she finds the dollars, what joy! I see you listening, present and engaged with your grandchildren as they share their excitements and their disappointments. I see you with your daughters, family, friends, co workers, and hear the bad jokes and stories you tell so well. You make a difference, Charlie, day by day, moment by moment. And I want you to know, I notice. I feel it in the air I breathe. I am touched, warmed, by who are in the world. Thank you, I love you, Jaye

The first time I ever heard the quote "Humility is the beginning of wisdom" was from you. Your management style may have been viewed as "abrasive" by some, but it was one of the key reasons I got over my challenges and moved on with my life. I just wanted you to know, you make a difference in what you do.
December 24, 2009 @ 2:50 PM
Eddie Anderson notices Mary: Mary, As I took some time today to reflect on all the blessings we have in our life, for me, you keep coming to the front of everyone and everything........ I just wanted you (and the world) to know that I notice and so appreciate the way you are handling and have handled the various challenges the current economy has placed on our finances. I appreciate the way you speak the truth and then purpose to build me up when I have moments of doubt regarding my abilities, when you could easily find reasons to tear me down. I notice your peace, received through the obvious way you "privately" handle your fears and doubts with God and depend on him for your strength, rather than allow them to build into major frustrations and them pile them on me. You are a true blessing and an incredible example of how a wife can empower her husband to keep going and keep believing no matter what the circumstances are that surround him. You truly bring to life the vows "For Better or for Worse".

Joshua Mermilliod notices Gene Mermilliod: Dad, I really wish I was as good a wordsmith as yourself. Perhaps then this wouldn't be quite so difficult. I am incredibly grateful for the impact you have had, and continue to have on my life. You are always ready to talk to me about my struggles, to answer my questions about the bible, and perhaps most important help keep me grounded when my head full of ideas would make me float away. I am always being told how much I resemble you (shocking huh?), but the truth is I can't think of a better compliment to be given. You push me when I become stagnant, and help me when I falter. You haven't failed me once, and I don't expect that you ever will. You and mom really are the best parents I could ask for. And even though we don't always see eye to eye on everything, you accept me for who I am. I know you love God. And I hope that one day that can be said of me too. But for now i have a good model to follow. josh
November 23, 2009 @ 4:53 PM
Joshua Mermilliod notices Gant Garner: Gant, It's been a while since the last time I got to speak with you, too long if you ask me. You probably are wondering why you are even getting this message right now. The truth is that you have been one of the most profound impacts on my life. I never really know what it meant to have a mentor until you entered my life in high school. I have very fond memories of the countless hours we spent having dinner together on Wednesday nights before church. I guess I didn't realize it at that time, but looking back you taught me so much in such a short time. You challenged my idea's, pushed to be better, and asked me just to think for my self. You gave me a need to read and study my bible, just so i would be ready when the next inevitable conversation would come up. You taught me what it means to lead people, and on one particular evening challenged me publicly to lead or get out of the way. I hope that my efforts to lead out have been and will continue to be successful. Please know that you, as well as you family, remain in my prayers. And if you have the chance pray for me, as I seem to need it now more than ever. I wish I could place everything in words, but in the reality of it all I can't. I can only say thanks. So thank you gant. josh mermilliod

Brooke Stover notices Tricia Clark: Mama Clark, even though i haven't known you very long time. You have still made an impact in my life. You made having friday classes last semester not only bearable but fun. You have always taught in such a way that made it easy to pay attention. i never felt like i was about to be tortured going to your class. But whats has stuck with me more is the way you care. I can tell how much you love and invest in your students. You are one of/if not the best teacher ive had at this school. You are always so caring. Asking how a students doing because they've been sick or helping them with idea for service learning when they are short a few hours. You are an excellent teacher and do your job well. But you also go beyond just teaching your students, you genuinely care for them. I have loved having you for 3 of my classes. ill miss you next semester. Brooke

Joshua Mermilliod notices Deanna Carey: Dear Mrs Carey, I'm guessing what little you remember of having me in your English classes in high school was my generally sleepy disposition. And while I may have appeared to pay little or no attention to what you were trying to teach us students, truth be told you had an extremely profound impact on me. I had never much cared for English classes. I never much understood or cared for grammar, but upon arrival in to my second semester in you class you told us to through it all out. I hated every minute of that writing book that we spent months going through. Yet, as i look back on it, I see what good those countless hours diagramming did for me. They taught me how to write. In the grand scheme of it all you taught us that words is what makes up good writing. If we say what we really mean to say, and we can weave a good story with it, what can go wrong. And so what if no one else likes it? A good story starts with the author, and so long as he is happy with it he is successful. I can never thank you enough. Joshua Mermilliod
November 23, 2009 @ 4:22 PM

Joshua Mermilliod notices Ryan Salyer: Ryan, Hey man whats going on. You are probably wonder why in the world you are getting this email. Well, to sum it up as best I can, I just wanted you know how much it has meant to me to able to call you my friend over the years. We have been together for so long, it blows my mind when I try to look back at all the fun we have had over the years. We have been through the best times and the worst of times. Yet, through it all you are about the one constant friend I have been able to keep. Sure we have our moments when we would rather fight than talk, but gratefully those times have been few and far between. You have been my roommate, my brother, and probably one day my best man. I love you man. Josh
November 23, 2009 @ 4:10 PM
joshua mermilliod notices gayle mermilliod: mom, I probably do not say this near enough, but I think that you should know I love you. I deeply appreciate the way that you and dad have always been around when i needed you most, whether I needed to talk, or just wanted to sit in the kitchen while you are cooking you are there. You have instilled ideals and idea's in me that have shaped my into the person that I am, or better yet am becoming. I love you, but I'm sure you already knew that. (I mean come on I've already said it once.) josh

Heather Miller notices Stuart Frye: Dear Mr. Frye, Hello my name is Heather Miller and I had you for U.S. History II last semester. I have to be honest and tell you that I hated History! I would have rather been burned with a lighter than take another History class. But your enthusiasm for History and your way of making it funny and interesting left me wondering why I didn’t love it. After the first week I was hooked! Now I’m actually thing of taking more History classes just for my own enjoyment. It’s like you made History fun and you made me realize that it is important to know our own History and learn about others History’s as well. By learning about these things we can become a better society. Thank you for making History enjoyable and really helping me understand the need for knowing about it. Thank You, Heather Miller
November 23, 2009 @ 3:57 PM
Heather Miller notices Lisa Poole: Dear Lisa Poole, I hope that you do not think I am choosing you as one of my five to get a better grade because I know you better than that. This is my second psychology class with you and I wish that you would teach them all. Your spunk and spontaneity makes your class so enjoyable that I have never felt like I’m going to class but like I’m going to discuss interesting topics about something I have such a passion for. I have always loved psychology and your ability to present topics in ways that appeal to all persons has actually made me consider becoming a psychology teacher. The concepts you have taught me have honestly changed how I view my life, others lives, and the world. I feel if people were less ignorant in psychological matters that maybe the world would be a better place. If people knew how to speak to one another and communicated efficiently maybe we could all get along a little better. Thank you for your amazing way of doing things and for helping add to the wildfire of love for psychology that I have today. Princess

Heather Miller notices Jim Cook: Dear Warrior, We have only been friends for a very short time and yet it feels as if we have known each other forever. Before I met you I had just got out of a relationship with Allen and had some really bad views on men. You have shown me that not every man is a Player, that there are men out there that love and care for women whole heartedly and love with 100% of their hearts without asking for anything in return. You are one of the greatest men I have had the pleasure of getting to meet and know. I am blessed to have been lucky enough to be a part of your life. Your life has been filled with people who walk all over you and take advantage of you, people who pretend to love you and break you heart, and yet you stand strong. Your out look on life is positive and happy even with all the bad things that have happened to you. You have made such an impact on my life and who I am and who I want to be that I can not do justice by putting it into words. I’m at a place in my life where I’m trying to figure out who I am now and what I want my life to be. To have been blessed with a friend and role model such as you is positively magnificent. You have helped make me into the person I stand as today. You will always hold a special place in my heart and I can never forget how you have changed me and my life. Thank you Warrior for being and no one else. Love Your Princess, Heather
November 23, 2009 @ 3:32 PM
Amber Musselwhite notices Shea: when we met, you were incredibly sensitive and never stood up for yourself and I was so against showing my emotions that I often came off as mean or harsh. Over the years, we have definitely rubbed off on each other and I think we both have a more healthy balance of strength and sensitivity. You have shown me what a true friend is. While many people have come in and out of our inner circle throughout the years, I know that you are always the one that I could trust. You have never betrayed my trust or hurt me in any way. I have never needed you and you not come to be by my side. Most people have lots of friends…I am proud to say I have one, because I know that you are a real friend. I know that you like me for me and truly care about both my physical and emotional well being. Thank you for always being there for me. Thank you for being by my side through all my bad ideas. My n-newton...senior year (if we can call it that) shaped who i am today and i am so happy that we got to experience that together. Thanks for being there through it all, even being my stand-in baby daddy lol. I really believe that i needed you in my life and so god gave you to me.
November 23, 2009 @ 1:55 PM
Amber Musselwhite notices Nell (gramma): although you are my grandmother, you have always felt more like mom to me. You have been there through so much with me. There has never ever been a time when I felt like I could not go to you If I needed you. You instilled good values in me from a very young age and I am grateful for that because I feel that many people my age lack the respect and manners of older generations. You are stubborn and a bit opinionated and I have surely followed you in those ways as well. But it’s a strength I value. You are a good woman. I hope I can be as influential to my children and grandchildren as you have been to me.
November 23, 2009 @ 1:47 PM
Amber Musselwhite notices Marley: you are too young now to realize how much of an impact you have. But you truly have made up a big portion of who I am today. 4 years ago, I was young and wild and did not have any real plan or care in life. The day I looked down and could see you making my belly grow, that all changed. I was no longer content with who I was and where I was going in life. You deserved better. So I made things better for you. I got a better job and a place to live sans partying roommates. But the real changes occurred inside of me. I found myself being more caring, more patient, more dedicated. I started these changes in my life for you, but I received major benefits. And that was all before you were born! Watching you grow bigger and smarter and more interesting over the past 3 years has been incredible. I would not trade a single day of it for anything. You have made me a much better person and I will be eternally grateful for that. You are the reason I constantly strive to be a better person. I want so much for you and I know I must lead by example. If it were not for you, I would never have had the motivation to accomplish the things I have and all the things I will do in the future. It’s all for you, monster. Mommy loves you!
